Bedford Get Together would not be possible without the effort and generosity of a host of volunteers.

Over 60 people from a broad cross section of Bedford community have contributed to the work of Bedford Get Together.

Along the way, we have talked to people throughout Bedford about the Get Together who support this event to celebrate our shared values.

Information for Supporters
  • Bedford Get Together, Inc. is a public charity recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS under Section 501(c)(3).  We are registered with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.  A financial statement is available upon written request from that agency’s Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs.
  • Our purpose is to eliminate prejudice, discrimination and polarity by educating the public on topics of general interest to the community as a whole -- and providing a means by which residents can get to know each other, get a sense of the real fabric of the community, celebrate shared values, and create a shared stake in the future of Bedford’s next generation.
  • Bedford Get Together, Inc. conducts events that welcome ALL residents of Bedford County and the Town of Bedford.  Beginning with our first Bedford Get Together in October 2017, we are conducting the 2018 Bedford Get Together, A Dinner Conversation, and an Earth Day Celebration.
  • Bedford Get Together, Inc. anticipates that over 75 organizations will participate in the October 13 Bedford Get Together at Edmund Street Park.
  • Bedford Get Together, Inc. supports other community efforts that include ALL residents of Bedford County and the Town of Bedford.  In 2018, we have provided our support to the Martin Luther King, Jr. March, Cop Camp, Bridges Out of Poverty training, the Bridge Street School to School planning effort, the Drug-Free Communities initiative, and the Bedford Area Resource Council.
  • Bedford Get Together, Inc.’s budget is a meager $6,500, and our goal is to return 90% of our funding to the community.  How do we do this?
    • We have no staff: 100% of the work we do is accomplished entirely by community volunteers.
    • Our overhead costs are limited to facility rentals, required permits, liability insurance, event props and advertising.
    • No vendor fees are required from our participants.
    • Admission to all of our events is free to the public.
    • We give away useful items -- such as canvas or cloth shopping bags, reusable water bottles, oak tree seedlings, and plants -- to people who attend our events.
