What’s New in 2023?
Community Mural
Bedford Get Together is working to make a large community mural come to life on the side of the building owned by Radford and Wandrei, P.C. overlooking Centertown Park. Early concepts were based on a WWII painting commissioned by Dan Villareal a longtime volunteer at the D-Day Memorial, where the painting hangs today. In realization that troops were segregated in WWII, but they have marched and died together in several wars since that time, the theme we hope to strike is that we’re all – everyone, regardless of race or color -- in this together.

Counter Ridge History Project (at the Sedalia Center)
Bedford Get Together is partnering with the Sedalia Center to support its Counter Ridge History Project. The Counter Ridge School building, which later became the Sedalia Center, was built in 1959 and used until 1969 as a segregated elementary school for African-Americans. The project seeks to return this history to the African-American community by creating a place where it is recognized with dignity and for the enlightenment of the community at large. it is a place to reclaim and remember the lives lived as children during its time, and a permanent testament to those times. Information about this project, including oral histories which comprise a major part of the project, are posted to YouTube at Counter Ridge History Project and on the project’s website at Counter Ridge History Project..
Community Meetings and Events
Bedford Get Together is planning to conduct various community meetings this year, beginning in early March with Our Bedford Story, later this year for getting feedback on the community mural, a celebration in the Fall for Community Service Award Winners, and others.
