When snow starts falling around here, everyone gets excited about meeting up. "Where should we meet? Is the farm up the road good, or do we want to meet at your place?" Everyone's curious, wondering who's joining, and if the roads are drivable or if we're walking. These are the thoughts that get us all excited, making this mother of four, feel like a kid again.
Everyone's on a mission to find their sleds, whether it's the old faithfuls from the shed, floaters from the pond, or sometimes even a canoe or a food trough for added fun.
Of course, we can't forget the must-haves – gloves, hats, scarves, and face masks. And you bet there are backups because kids have a knack for getting wet and cold faster than you'd think. We all gather at the farm's best sledding hill, ready for a day of winter adventures.
Sharing is caring, especially when it comes to sleds. "Can I try your sled? Let me give yours a shot," becomes the motto of the day as we all take turns racing down the hill. The thrill of going downhill is a total blast, but the uphill climb? Well, that's where we've got to dig deep to get back to the top. We do it over and over until our legs say, "No more."
As the day fades into evening, a hero shows up with steaming hot chocolate. We all gather at the base of the hill, sipping cocoa, recharging, and then mustering up the energy to climb back up for a few more runs.
By the end of the day, we're all wiped out but wondering, "What's next?" We started with excitement, and now it's time to pack up and head home, with the kids in their soggy snow gear trailing behind.
But days like these strengthen the bonds with friends, neighbors, family, and the whole community. These are the moments that make the best memories. On a day when you could stay cozy at home, the irresistible pull of adventure, shared laughter, and the warmth of togetherness helps us embrace the cold.
